Breastfeeding Education Classes
Designed for new and expectant parents, these comprehensive workshop-style sessions aim to expand upon the knowledge gained at antenatal classes, covering the basic information you will need to successfully breastfeed your new baby.
Past participants of our workshops have commented:
“To me it proved to be priceless, it really pays to find out more about breastfeeding whilst you are still pregnant! It also turned out to be vital that I took my partner.”
” I think that the ABA does wonderful work and feel quite passionate about the fact that I am still breastfeeding only because I had the luck of getting the right information while I was still pregnant in one of the ABA seminars.”
The Blue Mountains Region runs sessions at Springwood and Glenmore Park about every month.
Cost: $90 per couple (concession available for a Pension or Health Care Card)
Included in the cost of the Workshop is 12 months ABA Subscription, afternoon tea and complimentary handout material. As an ABA member you will receive a regular magazine, have the opportunity to attend your local group meetings, access to your local breastfeeding counsellors, the group library and discount breast pump hire. Our research shows that our members are more likely to have an enjoyable and successful breastfeeding experience.
Places are limited to 10 couples so early registration is recommended.
Our sessions are run by ABA Breastfeeding Counsellors and Community Educators. We encourage you to attend with your partner as we recognise the important role of the mother’s partner in a successful breastfeeding relationship. If your partner is unable to attend or you are single, you might like to bring another support person.
Topics covered include:
- How breastfeeding works and how breastmilk is made
- Breast and nipple care including common concerns
- How to breastfeed a new baby
- What to expect from a new baby
- Adjusting to parenthood, the effect of a new baby on the parent’s relationship
- The role of the fathers/partners in breastfeeding
